You will need CM V7.5+ for VFP9 - however, I don't know whether VFP7 is officially supported in CM V7.5?IMHO, you should just about get away with VFP7 in CM 7.5.

I have been developing with CM8 B3 for some time now but I have fixed and reported a number of issues that I have fed back to Dave that will make it into the next beta release. However, B4 is unlikely for some months yet so, I would stick with CM 7.5 for now, if I were you.
