I wonder why it would not be legal? I've read articles in the papers here talking about people who do that in New York and in Montreal. It's probably done elsewhere, but the articles I read only mentioned talking to people in those 2 cities. I'm not aware that it's illegal here (though it might be). They get the used cooking oil from restaurants for free, clean it themselves and use it.
