now i'm the other way around, salt on first, yes it makes a lot of the salt go to the bottom of the bag but i'm not a hugh fan of salt but it is essential on the chips. smoked cod is lovely, just like normal cod but smoked but it is of course battered, never had huss mind you. jumbo battered sausages definately are the best, also pineapple rings and proper onion rings.

>With smoked cod?!!! They do things differently over there then. I've never come across that in a chippy. Battered cod, haddock, plaice or or huss, but never smoked. The jumbo battered sausages are best.

>Oh, and a tip: get them to put the vinegar on 1st. Then 1) the vinegar doesn't wash all the salt to the bottom of the bag and 2) the salt clings to the chips better if they're already vinegared. :-)

>>I can see them now, in a bag along with some smoked cod, a quarter pounder or sausages in batter with lashings of salt and vinegar. That salad roll at lunchtime seems suddenly inadequate

>>>And you forgot to say that they're made from slices of potato and not from some sort of reconstituted and shaped potato mash, so they're quite different really.
