Hi,
Yes there are, and they all exhibit weird problems like the one you just experience.

Also the SIS chip set is one of the greatest hunks of junk that has ever been produced, extremely unstable, especially when under load, and the VIA chipset isn't much better.

The others maybe cheaper, but they are not worth the trouble, it is all about stability especially when dealing with servers.

My opinion is not based on conjecture, but my own personal experience with thousands of machines over the years.
