No problem. I've backed up all my DVD's.
One thing to keep in mind about re-encoding though - its a major CPU hog, and its kinda a pain in the neck - each movie seems to need slightly different settings if you're picky about the quality. I really recommend getting a DVD burner and doing the shrink or rat - DVD burners and blank DVD's are pretty cheap these days.
