Untangling the yarn is exactly how I described the feeling to my wife.

Now for the other metaphor, I really don't know whether this appeals to me as a (former) mathematician, or as a fun version of what I had to do quite a lot :). The initial phase, when I just move the nodes which are farthest away from their neighbors closer to them, or generally move stuff around (intuitively?) just to see if some picture will emerge - that's exactly what I sometimes do while trying to see through some spaghetti :).
