If the block size of the memo file is less than the cluster size of the volume and the bitmap sizes do not equal the cluster size, you will actually use more space saving as individual files. The only difference will be that the lost space will not be obvious because it is not reported by dir or explorer, you will have to use a utility that reports slack space (or calculate it by hand).
