As the professional developer that I try to be, I would agree with you. However, the cynic in me must point out that there are a lot of people (mainly larger consulting firms) who know a little about everything, tout thier opinions as God's word, and roll in the dough.....
As disgusting as that is to me, it is a reality....
As for me, I try to have my company's individuals specify a focus, and we then have a lot of overall ground we can cover. My partner Mike is great in networking, hardware, system design, etc while I do the C/S and other DB stuff. This helps *us* a lot anyway.... Eventually, I'd like to find a hard core C programmer as well as taking it up myself.
