Does VFP have a facility to insert a function call (for a better way of describing it) into a slab of text?

I need to add names and page numbers from large slabs of text to an index based on their location in the report. For example, the text may read "...in the house where John Smith [index()] grew up there is..." which may occur on the third page of the report however I don't want the '[index()]' to appear in the report.

Is this pushing the envelope too far?
