You can also leave HotFix (HF) 885250 on the XP\W2K machine and install this additional HF to it:

"You cannot save a file from your Windows XP-based or Windows 2000-based computer to a shared folder on a file server"

I tested it here today with an XP client and VFP8 and 9-made .EXEs in a share on a Win98SE machine - fixed the problem. There are W2K and WXP version of the HF.
