>I had the same thought about my grandfather who was raised on a dairy ranch in San Francisco. Get up in the dark to milk at 5 AM and again at 5 PM. Then enjoy the other chores that had to be done by the light of a kerosene lamp.

>9 PM was bedtime and you worked until then. My grandfather even after retirement from the City of San Francisco got up at 5 AM and went to bed at 9 PM sharp.

It was like that when I was on my Grandparent's farm in Saskatchewan, but I have to admit, we did stop to eat. You guys must be a hardy breed.

>Farming and ranching require long hard hours! Just a few summers on my uncles ranch taught me that!!!!! :)

>>That would make for a very long workday. I'm having flashbacks of working on the farm... :o)

>>>Does anyone remember the Oil Crisis of 1973? This resulted in the Nixon Administration imposing year round daylight savings time beginning January 6, 1974. Mothers protested as children were going to school in the dark. It was also determined that an increase in oil usage of 5% occurred due to the new law. The law was soon removed.
>>>
>>>It remains to be seen what will occur with this “new concept” of an increase in the length of daylight savings time.
>>>
>>>We complain of “too much government” and we get laws like this. Instead of regulating the clock our government should be looking at and developing alternative energy sources to be less dependant upon an oil economy.
>>>
>>>Here is one suggestion on how to save on the consumption of barrels of oil. Everyone arises when the sun rises, goes to work and then retires when the sun sets. This will save many barrels of oil. Anyone else have any concepts to save on the usage of oil? :)
