>>As I've heard it, many of the "prisoners" at Gitmo got there by acquaintances turning them in for some reward $$$. The accusers may not have even known them other than very casually, or even by word of mouth. Or the guy may have lived in an abode they coveted.
>What if a neighbour of yours, needing some $$$, fingered you to the authorities? You too could them enjoy a long time in communicado, possibly topped off with a trip to Syria for a little bit of torture to get the information they know you have out of you.
>Your writings here would be judged as some kind of "cover" to hide your "real motives". Your volunteering at some local shelter interpreted as your "meeting place" with other "conspirators".

>>It all may sound far-fetched, but the trouble is no one knows if it's already happened twice or 350+ or 10,000 times!

>Yes you're correct. As long as humans running this thing, there's always going to be an element of corruption involved. Lets just hope thoses that are truely innocent are released.

>But there are reports that when the prisoners are release, many of them go right back to fighting. My theory they must want to go back to club Guantanamo for three square meals and rest. :-)

Well we had a fellow here, Syrian born Canadian citizen, who was taken off a plane in New York and put in "detention".
No lawyer, no Embassy official allowed to visit.
Later he was sent to Syria for "rendition". That's the new-speak term for TORTURE. After oover a year in the total fiasco he was returned home, with some sort of mild apology.

The guy lost over a year of his life, his wife and kids were totally in the dark, he was tortured in all manner of ways. And he was innocent!!!

Yes, he got released. Is that what you have in mind when you say "Lets just hope thoses that are truely innocent are released"?
That simply doesn't work for me.
