Remember when they used to have to charge a person with something in a reasonable time or drop it? In fact, remember when they used to have to have a valid reason for throwing a person in jail - trials, judges, juries, that sort of stuff?

>>Ah, that I am, but in the realm of personal freedoms, where the U.S. leads, I fear Canada will one day follow. I don't believe our fearless leaders are any more in love with the concept of personal freedoms for anyone but themselves any more than yours are. Beside, who wants to live next door to a police state?

One incident like Maher Arar is enough, but unfortunately, it is not just one. We ship them to the U.S. who ships them to Syria to be tortured. We say, "Who knew???". The U.S. says, "Who knew???". Wanna make any guesses about who knew?

Usually (imho), Canadians are more publicly vocal about these sorts of things, and with an election coming up in the not too distant future, there might be some hope after all.
