>>>Remember when the police couldn't just walk into a person's house without a warrant? Remember when a person used to be able to consult a lawyer if he/she were detained? Remember when they used to have to charge a person with something in a reasonable time or drop it? In fact, remember when they used to have to have a valid reason for throwing a person in jail - trials, judges, juries, that sort of stuff?

We were recently scarred by international events and thought the solution was to pull up the drawbridge and keep the missiles prepared for launch. Those who didn't think "the right way" were ostracized, even blacklisted. And immigrants were called wops, krauts, spics, chinks, ragheads. Do you think it would be a good move to roll it back to that time?

Mike;

With time we have matured and developed our approach to international affairs and the treatment of the individual. In neither case do I imply that this is a positive.

Another interesting period in our history was the 1960’s, when the Domino Theory was in full force. If one country fell to communism then the surrounding countries would also fall. This theory cost millions of people his/her life in the name of freedom.
