>What I am wondering is if Crystal Reports is a good report solution for VFP? Is it easy to implement, can you really create any report you can imagine?
Crystal is a must when you need subreports. Creating a report is easy, and you can easily switch between design and preview modes, using real data. You cannot use cursors, which is too bad, but you *can* use views and tables, through an ODBC 'server'. You can create a DSN that you assign a 'server' to, so you can put your report data anywhere, and Crystal will find it. If you have the crystal ocx registered, all you have to do in Fox is create a report object (crystal.report i believe), set the dir where the actual report is at, and tell your object to go for it, using the object model.
With the pro version you can distribute the runtime files. You need to distribute a lot of files to make your report run.
I find that crystal 6 is a great product, although buggy. I have had some trouble with correctly aligning fields. Crystal 5 also had trouble with the subreports.
I hope this is of some help to you. You can go see all the features at:
