I had the same experience when I ported from vfp 3 to vfp 5 years ago. If I recall correctly, it only occured with comboboxes that were tied to sql queries. To remedy the problem, I had to delete the offending objects, recompile the code, then add new objects (not copies of the old ones) back to the form.
