Itried putting what you said in the validation box but it keeps erroring out. I then tried this and it let me save it

IIF(LEN(ssnumber)<>9,.F.,.T.) but when I reopen it it chages to this

IIF(LEN(ssnumber)#9,.F.,.T.) and I can enter a 5 number ssnumber in the browse.

Anyideas, the field is a character field?
