Jim,
You must get tired of having to defend Microsoft's commitment to VFP! Personally, the more I am exposed to other Database application technologies (VB5, ADO, RDO, ASP) versus VFP and remote views or VFP and Web Connection Framework, the more I realize what a superb and elegant tool VFP is. Sure it doesn't do everything. But I am focused on developing Database applications and I hardly every get asked to do 'everything!'.
Here's my view of why we are always defending the viability of VFP.
Developers who are usually paid by the hour, want to use tools like VB and C++ because they help maximize the number of hours that it takes to complete a project.
Managers and Clients, on the other hand, if they only knew, would want their applications developed in VFP because they would get performance, flexibility and satisfaction at a reasonable cost. God forbid that anyone should tell them how to save money!
Besides, VB can make the simplest project seem complex because of the hours and effort required!
Give me hours and give me VB!
Microsoft have too good a product in VFP and I don't think they will drop it anymore than they will drop another product. Microsoft have never displayed that kind of stupidity in the past.
Our city was really big on Access the last few years but there has been a big drop off lately. People are getting disillusioned with it as a development tool.
