it was a labour dispute with a catering firm caused by the owners (American venture captalists) wanting to reduce staff numbers and hire temporary staff at lower rates through another company (that they had also set up). As one of the managers is quoted as saying " Why pay drivers that much when we can get them cheaper from Poland".
What isn't clear is why it spilled over to BA baggage handlers. Under the labour laws here the Baggage handlers action was illegal and the union ordered them to go back to work.
