Again, is this how I interpreted it (as above) - otherwise it's meaningless. Anyway. I think I've got it right.
In cricket every batsman gets an innings, until 10 of them have been dismissed (from a team of 11 there must be 2 batsmen on the pitch), or until the captain decides they've scored enough runs and calls it a day for that innings. He may be out without scoring, or go on to score over 100 runs (called a century). Each batsman stays on till he's bowled out, caught out, or stumped, and is in partnership with the other. Then a new partner comes out for the remaining batsman.
