Yes, but we can it "an inning," not "an innings."
Although I agree that baseball can seem boring and certainly moves at a slower pace than most sports, there is actually a lot going on strategically a lot of the time. The choice of what pitch to throw to a given hitter in a given situation and where the pitcher will try to put the ball (you can tell by where the catcher holds his glove) is a big piece of the strategy.
Also, you noted that batted balls are often caught. That's to a great extent because the players position themselves in the field based on their knowledge (or their coaches' knowledge) of a given batter's habits.
The more you know about baseball, the more interesting the game is.
And yes, the rules are complicated.
