Okay, to answer my own question and pose a new one: this problem is not related to the edit box at all, but specifically to memo fields in remote views that have NULL values. From the browse window, I tried to edit a nulled memo field, but no go. Works in VFP 5.0, though.
This strikes me as a pretty big bug (in fact, it will pretty much stop our testing of 6.0 cold). Can anyone thing of a way around it?
