I have the same problem (as I have to support Opera FPW 2.6 tables).
After some experiments I've gave up to try to use VFP9.0 :( And I still use VFP 8.0 which works perfect with old and new tables ....
P.S. I hope something will be improved in VFP 9.0 SP1 :)
