As in a dread feeling I got when I realised half my life ago I'd been at art college, with all my aspirations, now I was a suit, with aching shoulders, and working for a company I hated. I could uproot and go with them to a place I didn't know and didn't like, on the outskirts of London, leave my beloved Brighton, friends, the seaside, etc. - or accept redundancy
