Since I'm not using any third party frameworks or development tools, and since I'm the lone developer, I realize it was stupid (20-20 hindsight*s*) to bite off such a big chunk all at once--in addition to my actual scope of work.

I completely agree with you. Views are not obvious at all. The SQL syntax is one thing, and then you have to set all the properties. That was really too much for me and that's why I resorted to a third party product.
