In my opinion you make a wise choice. I have an expression that I use.

You can work for the best company in the world and if you do not have a good manager you may as well be in hell.

You can work for the worst company in the world, have a great manager and your working environment will seem like heaven.

I can assure you that within my 47 years as a member of the work force I have experienced both of the above and all variations! :)
