Our republican form of democracy is a contradiction within itself. Take “Freedom of Speech” as an example. During our history laws and acts have been passed for one reason or another to reduce our “Freedom of Speech”. If you wish you can do a lookup at Google - Sedition Acts United States.

Now what does “Freedom of Speech” mean? Our courts are still interpreting the meaning of our Constitution. The meaning changes with time and is not an absolute. The Constitution may be seen as an idyllic document, which has many interpretations. From an academic viewpoint taken within the context of the founders of our nation and comparing it over time you see conflict.

True “Freedom of Speech” does not seem attainable without the possibility of hurting someone.

As long as people like Pat Robertson have a source of money their voices will be heard.
