I wish I knew. I have added a font recently (by just copying it into fonts directory) and it wouldn't show in any font selectors. I even opened the control panel - fonts, which is just a special directory look, and it didn't show there at all... until about five minutes later. So I figure Windows does some periodic background check of fonts directory.

I can imagine this wouldn't be too nice for your installation - the user would want to have the thing looking fine right away. I'd either go with Courier New (which I hate, but it's everywhere), or with an installer which knows how to install a font.
