i've tried it with norton internet security disabled. same problem. i've tried it with my router taken out of the equation. same problem.

i don't have any other firewalls that i know of (windows firewall is disabled). also, as mentioned in my post, it works by logging into my computer as another admin xp account. that other xp account would, i think, have the same programs running.
