Many people here have adviced a Dell Inspiron, but I go for the more expensive Dell Latitude series. They are for the professional. For example, what will happen if you accidentally drop your notebook? With the latitude series your chances that the notebook is still okay are quite big. And if you compare Inspiron with Latitude you'll notice that Inspiron has newer products on board. Don't misinterpret this. The components of the Latitude haven proven quality (endurance, for example).
A developer should always go for a 15.4 inch screen.
