This is funny...and frustrating in several aspects, not sure if you've experienced it before:

Looking for a hotel in Los Angeles on orbitz.com, I found the right one for me, selected it (highly visible under the rate column there's an icon that reads "OrbitzSaver Guaranteed"), I went through the process of selecting all the options (4 screens aproximately), enter my credit card number and the rest of the billing information, then when confirming the transaction I get the following message: "We were unable to complete this booking. Please try again later or select another hotel. (Message 1448)"

So I called customer service to find out what the h*** was going on; after 20 minutes on the phone the response was that the hotel is updating the rates therefore they couldn't do anything until that process finished and that it was going to take an hour or so, after that different rates may be reflected.

In other words, they are offering something they don't have and conveniently the error message says "try later OR a different hotel". Someone with a dirty mind like mine could think that they set up the bait with low fares that don't even exist and expect that since you are on their web site already, you'll end up buying from orbitz anyway at a more expensive rate.

To enforce my 'conspiray' theory let me tell you that this happened yesterday and, despite of what I was told at customer service, right now, 10 am eastern time, the offer still is on at the same price, but I am still unable to book it?

Disgusting way to do business.
