I hope they relent too. I still have to pay it, but it shouldn't apply outside the country. Of course, being the tax department, once they get their hands around your throat, it's pretty hard to shake them loose.

There was a time when the Government was talking about applying our GST (goods and services tax) to Canadians who spent time in hotels outside the country. They wanted us to pay 7% of the out of country hotel costs to the Canadian Government. There was an awful howl about that, and it didn't happen. When asked what good or service was being supplied by any Canadian entity in that instance, they had no answer.
