I was kind of always under the impression that it was difficult to be around cats. Adn dogs were great. Until about 10 yrs ago.

I moved in with a girlfriend who had a young daughter and a dog. The dog was very friendly but he was kind of a dumb mutt.

One day I get a frantic call from my girlfriend. Her daughters friend had a cat, who just had kittens. Her daughter brought one of the kittens home. I said I thought it would be alright. To my surprise when I got home, both the mutt (Jake) and the kitten were sitting in the middle of the kitchen table. The kitten was totally covered in dog slober. That was enough to convince us keeping the kitten (Socks) would be okay.

As Socks grew up, Jake would chase him around the house. After a few months, Socks figured out that Jake couldn't jump. So he would sneek up on Jake, bat him with his paw. Then run and jump up on top of a high piece of furniture. Just so he could taunt Jake.

I found Socks to be more fun to be around. He was more interested in playing games with me then the dog, such as fetching.

Since I moved out with that girlfriend, I've always had an interest in getting a cat again. Which I finally did when there was a big animal adoption day at a park across from my work last fall.
