>>I call the mosquitoes in the swamps of Florida “Humming Birds”! The mosquitoes in Alaska are much larger and so hungry!

>Yup. They not only prick you, they take chunks of flesh from you too.
When I was 17 I was in the Air Force and stationed at Orlando, Florida. One weekend we went camping in the Everglades and I met two guys from Florida. One of them told me this story at about 2 AM, when he found out I was from California.
There were two guys from California who went camping in the Florida Everglades. They had set up their tent and were sleeping on cots. There was a slight separation in the mosquito netting and two Florida mosquito’s entered. One mosquito said to the other upon seeing the two sleeping men, “Shall we take them home or eat them here”?
Just as I was told the punch line I saw a mosquito on the little finger of my left hand attempting to bite through my fingernail! It was bigger than the first joint of my finger! Squash! Well, that one did not get me but others made up for it! :)
