Interesting... Here also I don't get error. Work fine. (VFP 8/SP1)
VFP evaluate all as expressions. Try:

? MESSAGEBOX("Hello"),0,"Fred"
* And
? MESSAGEBOX("Hello"), GETFILE()

If you try:

MESSAGEBOX("Hello"),0,"Fred"

You get a error.
