Basicly every time a group header prints, I need to increment a report variable by one. Anybody know the best way to do that?
It sounds like a (dirty or smart) trick to me. Why not do an additional sql-select before calling the report?! In the sql statement you select only the persons' top record. Having done so, you can use the details band and print the totals in the summary band.
