Interesting question -- that is, developing software for free...

I have found that with the Internet, most people believe it should be free (it is the "Super highway of Information" and should be free to all...). I think this was fostered by the early adoption of the internet and the so many free things to be found. Then came open source and free OSs, applications, etc. that the general person didn't have to pay for it -- there is a belief that there must be a freebee somewhere that is as good or at least sufficient for anything.

Having tried several shareware projects in the past, with limited success, I am not sure how to proceed in offering applications or tools that I have developed. I tend to share snippits (as I have benefited from others sharing similar snippits), but have not come to the point of offering whole applications or major tools for free.

Most want to sale their own wares, but do not want to pay for the widgets that others make...
