AFAIK, what you got with the date is just a valid date with all the other "fields" not filled, you can read about valid datetime formats for WMI here:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/wmisdk/wmi/cim_datetime.aspAlso, and keep in mind my AFAIK <g>, any property of any WMI object requires that the hardware manufacturer (or the driver writer) to give the information to WMI, and it seems that your bios did not tell WMI the info about the serial number, maybe if you update the drivers you can get the right info. In my machine, I get this results:
