So can I conclude that this "problem" was a lot easier to overcome once you found this place *and* got things narrowed down quite a bit?

Most of my staff see little likelyhood of accessing the same record at the same time, and even if they do most are for information rather than data entry purposes, so for many users their screens will be read only. I think I'm ready to launch this system-wide, with just tweaking and refining as we go along.
