Here in Ontario we have fridges that are well over 50 years old, and in large numbers, most all relegated to "beer fridge" status in basements.
The reason for this is that the late 50s saw a decision to change the power grid over to the continent-wide standard voltage(?). I *think* it went from 50cycles to 60cycles.
To accomplish this every motor was replaced by the utility and fridges have just lasted and lasted.
So we have 1930-vintage fridges still in operation!
This also tends to show that "They don't make 'em like they used to" is true, at least insofar as fridge motors are concerned.
