>There were two people at our table facing us who began to talk about us in Spanish. The wife was very insulting to my wife and myself! Her husband told her in Spanish, “Be careful, they may understand Spanish”! The wife said to my wife, ¿“Habla usted Español”? To which my wife replied, “No, yo hablo Castellano”!!! At that point I left the table laughing and did not want to hear what followed”!
Back in the seventies we were in a tent camp, on a vacation on Adriatic coast. A Hungarian family about 10m from us was very loud and didn't really care how far they were heard. I didn't speak Hungarian then, but my (now) wife did. She didn't comment much on the content of their conversation, probably it wasn't anything rude or directed against the neighbors.
After a few days they came to ask for directions - I think they needed the rubber ring for the pressure cooker, and of course they couldn't find one, because these were sold only in the shop of the local sewing machines factory. We accidentally knew where it was, but it took some while until they explained (in an unbelievable mix of English, German and some Russian) what they needed. Then my wife gave them directions in very scholarly Hungarian.
The rest of the vacation was very quiet.
