Check out www.dart.com's PowerMail ActiveX component ($495). I've had good success with this product with VFP 7 and 8. Haven't tested it under VFP 9.

Another thought: Many IMAP email systems still expose a POP3 interface to read mail so you may still be able to use your POP3 code to access the mailbox in question.
