Right, it just a box with a phone line (or 8) and an ethernet port. There is a certain amount of software that comes with the product. There is an SDK for working with it under the hood, in the background. My users access it as a printer, just a choice in a standard printer dialog. A window opens with options for entering a name, number, company name, notes, choose a coverpage, attach an external file if you want to, use a contacts list from Outlook...

It is only limited by how far you choose to develop automation and interaction between the device and your programs.
