>>>I just saw the guest judge that Fox news has on from time to time. He said Blanco wouldn't sign the document that turned the LA national guard over to the president so he could have the Army run the ship, even though she did put the document out that stated there was a "state of emergency". Having said that, have you heard the woman? She looks like she might be an outpatient from a mental institution, or she may just be strung out!<g>

>>She didn't sound so until she saw it all. I'm keeping the video clips on my disk.

>You make my point. Remember Rudy in New York. He was the same before, during and after and now he is the standard for how a leader should deal with situations like this. She and the foul mouthed mayor failed miserably.

In all fairness, you can't compare 9/11, and Mayor Giuliani's(sp?) exquisite handling of that situation.
1) 9/11 happened out-of-the-blue and when it was done, it was done.
We all went to bed Monday niight thinking NO had done pretty well, only to wake up to breaking levees Tuesday morning.

2) 9/11 affected roughly 8 NYC blocks and that was it.
Katrina afected an area the size of Texas, they say. There is a difference.

3) 9/11 killed roughly 3,000 people and injured some 1,000 more, leaving around 8,000,000 other people to take care of things with earnest assistance offered by the entire world too.
We don't know how many died in NO but we do know that there was nobody around in a position to do anything without power, communications, clear roadways, etc.

There simply is no comparison.
And some part of some "disaster plan" surely had to be in action for the major interstates to have been routed all lanes northward. That doesn't happen magically.

In any case I agree with you and many others that inquiries/commissions/hearings can all come later, when things are well under repair and the more than 1,000,000 people drastically affected by the hurricane have some semblance of normalcy restored.

What you and your friends are planning is fantastic and I wish you all great success. Things are starting to look a little bit better for the victims, but they have one hell of a long road ahead of them and help like you are going to do is going to be invaluable in their journey.

cheers
