>It has nothing to do with alergies. There are many studies that show smoking and second hand smoke increase health care costs. You live in a country that subsidizes health care. Decreasing health care costs should have a direct affect on you.

I realise it isn't about allergies. I was just making the point that allergies also create health issues, but perfume haters don't have a big lobby, so those health issues will never be dealt with by our politicians here in Ontario.

My point was that the decisions are not made according to health issues, but according to who has a large lobby.

Liquor also has a huge detrimental effect on our health costs, but I don't see liquor being banned anywhere. Getting stupid drunk is seen almost as a rite of passage. And now the gov't is talking about allowing the sale of beer in grocery stores, as if we don't have enough drunks around.

I simply cannot accept that any of this was honestly done with 'health' as the primary motivator.

>>That may be true where you are Tamar, but when this all started here it was driven by non-smokers insisting on being allowed to eat and drink without having smokers around as if they had some sort of God given right to be in any particular restaurant. They decided that the restaurant owner had no rights.
>>
>>Before the complete ban, there were enclosed smoking areas, and by law staff could not be forced to work in those areas. The staff who served those areas were smokers themselves and didn't care.
>>
>>What was wrong with that system? No. This was never really about staff. This was about non-smokers demanding that everyone live according their dictates. There are far too many folks in this world who simply cannot stand the fact that others act in ways of which they do not approve, and they have a large lobby.
>>
>>Just to reiterate in case it is unclear, I am a non-smoker, and I hate being around smokers. But I'm an adult capable of making choices.
>>
>>My mother is allergic to perfume, and of course, she's hardly alone in that. I'm waiting for the day someone demands that they ban perfume in public places in Toronto. Then we'll see if our fearless leaders really care about public health, or only about who has the biggest lobby. My money is on the perfume wearers and sellers.
