I don't remember if I have this link saved at home. I found a website where folks sent in the results of trying +/- on various home DVD player's. You would only have to hope your friends can give you the right model number.
If I recall, in general, if it's an older player, you'll have more success with -. I also think certain manufacturers will work better too.
There was no +/- controversy with CD.
