Hi Dragan,

I think you might be right on this. "The automatic smile" that more is a habit than showing actual interest. I don't think however it is only the smile. It is with meeting people in general: They can act to be friendly, but often it is a mask and it is difficult to get at the real person behind that mask.

Let's be fair and say again that this is not something I actual experienced a lot (I don't live in the US), but it still something I've heard a couple of times. And I have to admit that this behaviour is also present in certain countries in europe.

But for sure there is a big difference between the brittish and the americans in this respect.

Maybe, maybe not. It is difficult to speak for every country and culture in europe. I do get the feeling, at least here in holland, you can read someones feeling from the face, more showing their emotions. Whether that is good or bad, I don't know...
