Is there any way to read Drive Serial of WinXP machine from a Win98 Machine?

I'm unable to read Drive Serial of WinXP machine (D:) from a Win98 Machine. Although I can read the same from another WinXP machine. I have mapped the "d:\server\" folder of the XP machine on other machines.

Any help is much appreciated. I have to solve the problem urgently.
