Sergey, i appreciate your response, and it does the trick, but is not exactly what i want.

What you've provided works great if I want to save the document right away in word. What i'm looking for is, WHEN i want to save the document in word, that the file name listed in the save as box is the same as the title in the properties.

As an example of what i'm looking for without using automation: i create a word template. in the properties of the word template, i call the title something like "newtemplate". any time someone uses the template to create a new document, and then uses save as, the name in the save as box is "newtemplate.doc".

can this be done - or is the dialogbox the only way of doing this? Thanks for your help.
