Alex;
Would it be acceptable to remove the two words “under God” from the pledge? I was 12 when these words were added, and President Eisenhower really pushed the introduction of the phrase “under God”, into the pledge.

>>No (such) pledge here in Holland. And a pledge with the word 'God' in it, is unthinkable. I don't understand why it took so long before the U.S. finally also decided that it's unfair towards those who don't believe in a God.

>It was not in there until 1954 or so when it was added mainly because of the Communist scare (Cold War) to reinforce 'patriotism' as we all know that Communists are 'godless' and that is bad. It was irrelevant that this was (and is) unconstitutional.
